According to the United Nations Office in Nepal, the assistance amount will address the four-month plan prepared by the government under the leadership of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA). The main objective of this is to prevent the risk of suffering and communicable diseases before the onset of winter in the settlements of the high mountains, according to a statement issued by the United Nations.TAG_OPEN_div_24
The United Nations and humanitarian aid partners are working in coordination with the rescue and relief work being carried out by the Government of Nepal. Many settlements in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading districts have been displaced so far due to the disaster caused by the flood in the Bhotekoshi River on August 26.
} Due to extensive damage to physical infrastructure, the transport routes have been blocked, the power system has been affected and the drinking water and sanitation facilities have been washed away. This has deprived the residents of even basic necessities.
“This joint plan will address the urgent humanitarian needs of various sectors to protect vulnerable communities. Cash will be provided directly to affected families in areas where local markets are operating. Temporary shelter will be distributed to displaced families to protect them from the cold before winter sets in, while solar equipment will be provided to households where there is no electricity, and lights and basic energy will be provided,” the UN said in a statement.
The project is expected to prevent the spread of water-borne diseases through the repair of damaged drinking water systems, installation of rapid water purification systems and distribution of sanitation materials. Immediate treatment and nutritional support will be provided through mobile health camps, and protection groups will be mobilized to reunite children separated from their families. In addition, rural livelihoods will be saved through the distribution of emergency food assistance and management of surviving livestock.TAG_OPEN_div_16
