Kathmandu. In the 36th general convention of Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Shobha Gautam was elected as the president with 751 votes, which is the first time in 72 years that a woman has been elected as the president.
Likewise, Dinesh Chandra Bastola has been elected the senior vice-president, Saugat Thapa and Manoj Kumar Shrestha the vice-presidents.
Kathmandu. After 72 years, women have become the leaders of Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Shobha Gautam has been elected as the president.
She was elected to the post of president following the 36th general convention of the association that began on Sunday.
Gautam got 751 votes. His nearest candidate Arjun Pokhrel got 637 votes, Uttam Man Buddhacharya got 601 votes and Balram Acharya got 253 votes.
According to Damu Adhikari, coordinator of the election committee, Dinesh Chandra Bastola won the post of senior vice-president of the association with 1,481 votes. His rival Tikaram Subedi got 760 votes.
Saugat Thapa won the post of vice-president of industry with 1,271 votes. Lalit Bahadur Kunwar got 973 votes.
Manoj Kumar Shrestha won the post of vice-president of commerce with 1,065 votes. His rival Bhim Gautam got 919 votes.
Sudip Pradhananga won the post of General Secretary with 1,202 votes. His rival Taranath Dhungana got 1,042 votes.
Pradip Rajbhandari won the post of deputy general secretary with 1,153 votes. His candidate Yadav Prasad Pokharel got 658 votes and Ram Chandra Timilsina got 433 votes.
Devendra Praju secured 1,439 votes while his contender Jeevan Prakash Shrestha got 775 votes.
Durga Baral (1748), Amrit Pokharel (1731), Nirmala Chapagain (1580), Govinda Bahadur KC (1478), Rameshwor Adhikari (1477), Manohari Poudel (1476), Bhanu Bhakta Adhikari (1452), Dilip Kumar Shrestha (1447), Ram Prasad Kandel (1435) and Kamal Bahadur Sunar (1424) were elected.
Accordingly, Keshav Dhakal, Mukti Prasad Paneru, Laxmi Prasad Adhikari and Lal Prasad Dhakal were elected as objective members while Pitambar Adhikari was elected unopposed as an industrial member.
