Kathmandu. Tensions between the US and Iran have escalated again in the war that has been going on for more than six months.

The US military said on Tuesday it destroyed five more Iranian oil tankers in response to the latest missile attack on its warship.

Iran also fired missiles at US targets in Jordan, state media reported.

Jordan’s military said its air defense system intercepted 18 ballistic missiles fired at its land. Two more missiles landed in uninhabited areas. Jordan said there were no reports of human casualties.

Jordan, a close ally of the United States, has been the target of Iranian attacks in the past due to the presence of US troops.

The latest attacks come as US President Donald Trump is trying to end the war. The Trump administration also imposed additional restrictions on Iran’s airspace on Tuesday. More than two dozen commercial and private airlines and foreign cargo operators have been targeted in an effort to isolate Iran from its remaining trading partners.

The Strait of Hormuz has also become an important area in the conflict between the US and Iran. Before the start of the war, about one-fifth of the world’s oil consumption was transported through this route.

Energy prices are rising in the global market due to the ongoing tension in this sector. On Tuesday, the price of Brent crude oil in the international market briefly reached $ 99.46 per barrel.

Earlier on Saturday, the U.S. military destroyed three Iranian oil tankers. The U.S. military said the action came after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Security Forces tried to attack a U.S. aircraft carrier and destroyer warship with ballistic missiles.

After this, Iran said that it was preparing to declare a new no-ban zone targeting certain ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Iran’s attacks cannot go unanswered. Continuous attacks and retaliatory actions have raised concerns that the US-Iran war will deepen and its impact on the global energy market.
