Karma Chhewang Lama, ward chairperson of Chumnubri Rural Municipality-1, said that the climbers have started returning home after the weather did not favor them even after waiting for two weeks.

He said that due to the continuous rain in the Manaslu area, there is a thick snowfall of five feet around it. “This has never happened. What has happened is that it is raining and snowing,” said Lama of the ward. That’s why the climbers have returned. ”

He said that although the monsoon has improved, there is no possibility of returning to the mountain this season. Prabal Lama, a local businessman, said that although there was no rainfall in the area in the past years, it was very low this time.

“The base camp has been coming continuously since 2014. This has never been seen in the last twelve years,” he said, adding, “This year the rain is non-stop. The snowfall is also the same. There has been up to three feet of snow in the base camp. Camp I, Camp II and Three have already received seven to eight feet of thick snow. He said that the climbers returned after seeing the risk.

Mingmar Tshering Lama, a hotelier of Samagaun, said that although some climbers have returned due to the changed monsoon, there are still many in the area. “They used to return last year as they could not climb the mountain. This time, many have returned. Maybe it is due to adverse weather,” he said, adding that about 10 percent of the climbers have returned so far. ”

About 500 climbers had taken permission to climb 8,163 meters of Manaslu, which is famous in the world, during this season. Last year, 366 male and 127 female climbers from 41 groups of 67 countries had taken permission. The government of Nepal received a revenue of Rs 22.48 crore from this.
