Kathmandu. CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel has objected to the police arresting former Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana from his residence in Maharajgunj in the middle of the night.

Pokharel said that the arrest of Rana was a serious violation of Nepal’s prevailing law and justice system.

In a Facebook post, Pokharel said such acts were against the spirit of the constitution, democratic system and rule of law.

Pokharel also urged all to warn about wrongdoings.

Former Chief Justice Rana was arrested by a team of the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office from his residence in Maharajgunj last night. So far, the police have not made public the details of the crime for which he has been arrested.

An impeachment motion was registered against him in the House of Representatives on February 14, 2021.
