KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office has taken action against 284 drivers for repeatedly violating traffic rules along the Nagdhunga-based tunnel.
According to the Traffic Police Office, action has been taken against drivers flouting lane discipline, over-speeding, overtaking, honking unnecessary horns and obstructing the road.
Spokesperson of the Kathmandu Traffic Police Office, Naresh Raj Subedi, said that action has been taken against those breaching traffic rules since the operation of the Nagdhunga-based tunnel way.
“Vehicles can be driven at a speed of 40 km per hour on the tunnel. A notice board has been put up accordingly. The drivers who violate this rule have been brought under the purview of action,” said spokesperson Subedi.
According to the traffic police, activities such as stunting, honking unnecessarily, overtaking and speeding are taking place inside the tunnel. Spokesperson Subedi said that such activities can increase the risk of accidents in the tunnel and can also affect rescue in emergency situations.
The traffic police have urged drivers to drive more sensitively while using the tunnel as compared to other roads. The traffic police have requested to maintain lane discipline inside the tunnel, follow the prescribed speed, do not blow unnecessary horns and take special precautions while overtaking.
Meanwhile, 13 drivers have been taken action for violating traffic rules on the tunnel road today. A team deputed from the Traffic Police Division, Nagdhunga under the Kathmandu Traffic Police Office took action against them.
