Anyone violating law will be fined equally: Minister Sah

Kathmandu. Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Deepak Kumar Sah has clarified that the purpose of market monitoring is not to terrorize the business.

Participating in a discussion programme on ‘Smooth Supply Management and Monitoring of Daily Essentials Goods’ organized by the Development, Economic Affairs and Good Governance Committee under the National Assembly at Singha Durbar today, Minister Saha said that if the market monitoring was found deficient in the market, the government or private would be fined.TAG_OPEN_div_30

} “Market monitoring is not about terrorizing businesses. It is about ensuring fair competition and the rights of consumers,” Minister Sah said. Minister Sahal said that the issue of fines to Salt Trading Corporation Limited should also send a message that the law is applied equally to anyone who violates the law.

“I would like to mention here that a fine of three lakh rupees was imposed on Salt Trading Corporation Limited yesterday. This message is clear, whether it is government or private, big or small, if the law is against the interest of consumers, the law is the same for all,” Minister Sah said.

Minister Sah said that the market monitoring is also being done on a ‘data-driven and risk-based’ basis. “Work is being done to develop a system where there is a possibility of problems and can be monitored at any time if necessary on the basis of information,” he said. Minister Sah said that since the scope of work of the ministry is wide, it is directly related to the production of industries to the kitchens of the common people.TAG_OPEN_div_24

“Our thinking should be clear. It is to increase production, reduce unnecessary dependence on imports, secure the supply system and ensure the rights of consumers,” Minister Sah said.

Stating that LPG gas is a burning issue related to the current supply, Minister Sah said that efforts are being made to ease the supply of gas. “The main problem that the common people have experienced in recent times is the supply of LPG gas. I have not seen this problem as a single system, from the loading of gas to transportation, storage, refilling, distribution, dealer to consumer’s kitchen. Minister Sah said that he is a techno-economic engineer and is working seriously to identify the problem. “We have used technical analysis like ‘fishbone diagram’ to identify the problem. We are working on identifying the reasons for import, transportation, roads, refilling capacity, storage, distribution, geographical imbalance of demand, market management and security,” he said. Minister Sah said that three types of strategies have been prepared to solve the problems seen in the current supply chain.TAG_OPEN_div_18

“We have been paying attention to immediate relief, medium-term system improvement and long-term energy security to improve the system,” Minister Sah said, adding, “We are holding continuous discussions with the stakeholders on increasing the storage capacity of LPG, improving bottling and distribution capacity and making arrangements for emergency storage.”TAG_OPEN_div_16 ”
