KATHMANDU: The Kojagrat Purnima festival is being celebrated on Sunday evening by worshiping Mahalaxmi, the goddess of wealth and wealth.
On the occasion of Kojagrat Purnima, the last day of Durga Paksha i.e. Bada Dashain festival, Mahalaxmi is worshiped in every house in the evening. The 15-day-long Bada Dashain festival concludes from today after staying awake at night with the worship of Mahalaxmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity.
According to the Nepal Calendar Determination Development Committee, the work of all the sacrifices to be done according to the scriptures has also been completed on Sunday. With the fulfillment of all the sacrifices, the process of taking blessings from the elders by applying tika and jamara as the prasad of Navdurga that started from Bijaya Dashami also ends. On Sunday, the Jamara is taken to the nearby rivers, lakes, ponds, etc.
The Durga Paksha or Dashain festival, which started from the day of Ashwin Shukla Pratipada, is celebrated by the common Nepalis according to their own wishes. Chairman of the committee, Sah Prof Purushottam Bhattarai, said that this festival has been started on the basis of the religious belief that Mahalakshmi, who is traveling around the earth in the house of people who were awake at night on Sunday evening, enters the house of people who are awake at night and makes them prosperous by giving wealth and prosperity.
Today, Durga Paksha is bid farewell by worshipping Mahalakshmi, one of the three forms of Goddess Durga. Although Navratri ends on the day of Vijayadashami, Durga Paksha ends on Ashwin Shukla Purnima.
This festival has special significance as Mahalakshmi is worshipped 15 days before Lakshmi Puja. This Purnima is also known as Kaumudi. He said that there is also a tradition of gambling on Sunday night. Along with Mahalakshmi, Indra, who rides on an elephant, is also worshiped today. After the puja is over, one stays awake all night today.
