Kathmandu. The United States has suspended the immigrant visa process for 75 countries, including Nepal. The Trump administration’s decision to suspend visa processing for citizens of 75 countries is considered to be the strongest step in the ‘America First’ policy.
The U.S. State Department said in a statement that it had suspended the visa process, effective January 21, to reevaluate the immigration process.
It will continue indefinitely until the department re-evaluates the existing rules related to immigrant visas.
The policy aims to strengthen national security, crack down on data sharing, and secure jobs for American citizens. As a result, the future of thousands of migrants and students from these countries will be uncertain from January 21, 2026.
Nepal’s low per capita income and the new definition of ‘public charge’ make it increasingly difficult for Nepali applicants to prove their financial self-sufficiency. Earlier, the process of getting a visa by showing normal bank balance has now ended.
