Kathmandu. In the first six months of the current fiscal year 2082÷83, the Bagmati Province government has collected Rs 17.43 billion or 25.84 per cent of the annual target.

Land registration and vehicle tax are the main sources of revenue collection for the provincial government. According to Keshav Bhandari, an officer at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Planning Development of Bagmati Province, the revenue collection in the fiscal year 2082÷83 was estimated to be Rs 30.89 billion.

According to him, the government had set a target to collect Rs 7.70 billion revenue from the head of land registration in the current fiscal year 2082/83.

Likewise, the provincial government has collected Rs 2.63 billion in revenue till mid-January against the estimated Rs 8.25 billion in the fiscal year 2082÷83 under the head of vehicle tax under vehicle test pass, route permit, distribution and renewal of driving license.

Likewise, the provincial government has collected Rs 3.69 billion as VAT against the estimated receipt of Rs 8.79 billion from the Value Added Tax (VAT) and Rs 1.28 billion against the estimated excise duty of Rs 4.03 billion.

Similarly, the government has received Rs 5.74 billion or 38.78 per cent of the amount of equalization grant from the federal government against which it was estimated to be Rs 14.81 billion.

Likewise, the provincial government was expected to collect Rs 4.77 billion from internal sources in the fiscal year 2082÷83 against which Rs 1.87 billion or 39.19 per cent of the target was received, the ministry said.

According to him, the decrease in the purchase and sale of real estate and new vehicles due to the lack of financial liquidity, and the losses incurred by various revenue collecting bodies of the state government during the Jejani agitation on September 7 and 24 have prevented the expected revenue collection.
