UML’s manifesto: How to increase the size of economy to Rs 200 trillion in a decade

Kathmandu. The CPN-UML has released its election manifesto. In the manifesto, the UML has set a target to increase the size of Nepal’s economy to Rs 200 trillion in the next decade.

According to the manifesto, the total economic size will be $100 trillion and per capita income will be around $3,000 in five years. The manifesto has set a target to make agriculture, energy, industry, information technology and physical infrastructure the major driving sectors of economy.

Modernization of agriculture will be done and additional manpower will be transferred to industry and service through education, skills and technology. The manifesto also includes plans to make macroeconomic policies investment-friendly and production-supportive, mobilize financial sector capital to productive sectors, strengthen capital markets and increase investment for high economic growth.

Similarly, the budget implementation will make provisions to punish the bodies that do not meet the criteria of marks, time, results and quality. Public borrowing will be taken only for national priority projects, controlling inflation, maintaining food security, increasing exports and reducing trade deficit.

The UML has also pledged to mobilize the private sector as a major partner for national prosperity and help the non-government and social organisations in the field of employment generation and social entrepreneurship.

According to the manifesto, the contribution of the information technology sector to the GDP will increase to 5 percent in the next five years. The plan includes inclusive economic growth, reducing income inequality, ensuring a living minimum wage, ensuring equal access to education and health, a progressive tax system, and promoting social entrepreneurship.
