Kathmandu. At least 15 members of the Hassad al-Shaabi coalition have been killed in airstrikes in Iraq. The attack is seen as the deadliest since the start of the Iran-US war.
The war has spread to Iraq after Israel and the United States invaded Iran on February 28. Hassad al-Shaabi, who is part of Iran-backed brigades in the Iraqi armed forces, has blamed the deaths of his fighters on a joint U.S.-Israeli strike.
Six Pesmerga fighters have been killed in a ballistic missile attack in Iraqi Kurdistan. Iraqi officials called the attack “hostile and treacherous” and accused Iran of playing a role in it. Neither the United States nor Iran has commented on the incident.
In recent years, pro-Iran armed groups have claimed responsibility for attacks on US targets in Iraq and the region, and U.S.-Israeli actions have targeted these groups as well. The Pentagon recently acknowledged that there had been a helicopter strike against pro-Iran groups in Iraq.
Hassad al-Shaabi said in a statement that political parties must take responsibility and confront US violations. According to Kurdish officials, six Iranian ballistic missiles targeted the Pesmerga, killing six people and wounding 30.
Experts have assessed the incident as a sign of the complexity of the conflict in Iraq and a regional security threat. The war is having a major impact on Iraq’s political and security balance, and the Kurds are trying to remain neutral in the Iran-US war.
