Kathmandu. India has called for an international tender to import 25 lakh metric tonnes of urea due to the supply disruption caused by the situation in the Middle East.
State-owned Indian Potash Limited has already floated a tender in this regard, for which the last date for application is April 15.
India is heavily dependent on the international market to meet its demand for urea. The demand is expected to increase further with the onset of monsoon and the start of summer crop planting.
The conflict in the Middle East has disrupted global supply chains. This has disrupted fertilizer supplies from major exporting countries and reduced sea traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
Due to the blockage of the sea route, there is a shortage of LPG in India and the price of crude oil in the world market has also increased sharply.
