EC seeks details of former prime minister, governor, corporation officials and other high-ranking officials

Kathmandu. The Commission for Investigation on Assets (CIAA) has initiated investigation into the properties of officials, employees of political parties and their families who held public office from 2062/63 to mid-April 2082/83 and retired from service during this period.

Issuing a notice, the commission has asked the concerned people to submit their property details within 30 days.

According to the mandate published in the Nepal Gazette, the commission will study and investigate the movable and immovable property, sources of income and the bases thereof of the people holding or retiring public positions. The commission has asked for details of the properties of the concerned persons in their own names and in the names of their family members.

According to the notice of the commission, the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Ministers, State Ministers and Assistant Ministers, Members of Parliament, members of the Constituent Assembly, chiefs and office-bearers of constitutional bodies, former judges, high officials of the Nepal Army, Province Chiefs, Chief Ministers, Ministers and members of the Provincial Assemblies would be investigated.

According to the commission, the Attorney General, the Chief Attorney, the office-bearers of the then District Development Committee and the incumbent District Coordination Committee, chiefs and deputy chiefs of local levels, ambassadors and employees of the diplomatic missions, high-ranking officials of the civil service, parliament, health and human rights service, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and National Investigation Department have also been asked to submit their details.

Similarly, the governor, deputy governor, executive director of Nepal Rastra Bank, chairpersons, directors and chief executive officers of public banks and financial institutions, office-bearers of public corporations and government-funded universities and institutions have also come under the scanner.

The commission has also asked the concerned persons to disclose the source of their assets including salary, allowances, foreign trips, real estate, share transaction, loans taken from banks and financial institutions, agriculture, livestock, trade, business and remittance.

The details can be submitted by an individual, representative, post office or email, according to the Commission.

The NHRC has warned that action will be taken against those submitting false or incomplete details and failing to submit the details within the stipulated time.
