Kathmandu. The government has decided to waive customs duty on the import of goods for the reconstruction of structures damaged during the Genji agitation. The government introduced this provision in the joint meeting of the Federal Parliament through the budget for the coming fiscal year today.
As per the provision made in the Finance Bill, 2083, special provisions have been made regarding the rehabilitation of buildings, furniture, machinery and equipment caused by arson or vandalism during the agitation.
The bill states that 50 per cent of customs duty and excise duty will be waived on the basis of the details of the goods that are confirmed from the report of the insurance surveyor in case of damage to the building, furniture, machinery and equipment due to arson or vandalism in the affected industries, trade or business establishments during the Genji agitation.
