Banke. The Nepalgunj Customs Office has increased its monthly revenue collection after the imposition of customs duty on goods entering Nepal from India.
Janardan Poudel, chief customs officer at the Nepalgunj Customs Office, said that the customs revenue has increased significantly in comparison to the previous months after the implementation of the mandatory customs policy on goods worth more than one hundred rupees.
According to him, there has been a significant increase in revenue collection in the months of March and April after the tightening of customs. The government collected Rs 2.14 billion, Rs 2.554 lakh in the month of March and Rs 1.84 billion in April last year.
According to him, the tightening of the border with the objective of changing the trend of going across the border to the Indian market Rupaidiha for purchase of every goods has increased revenue and the trade and business of Nepagunj has flourished.
Nepalgunj Customs Office has collected 68 per cent more revenue than the target in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year. The government has collected Rs 16.73 billion or 68.2 per cent of the target for the fiscal year 2082/083 against the annual target of Rs 24.54 billion.
Chiranjibi Oli, senior vice-president of Nepalgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that the local market has become vibrant as many people have stopped going across the border following the tightening of the border.
