Kathmandu. Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Gauri Kumari Yadav, has taken concrete steps to reopen the Birgunj Sugar Factory.
A task force has been formed to study the current situation of Birgunj Sugar Factory Limited and prepare a feasibility and necessary action plan for its operation.
The task force has been formed to study the status of the Birgunj Sugar Factory, the past decisions, the studies and reports prepared earlier for the resumption of the factory and the steps to be taken now. The taskforce formed by the Ministry has been given the responsibility to complete its study and submit its report within 15 days. The task force is headed by C.D.E. (C.D.E. from the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies). The members include section officer of the ministry and an officer representative of the Department of Industry.
The task force will not only study whether or not to operate the factory. The task force has also been given the responsibility to study the suggestions and recommendations submitted by the previous decisions and reports of the task force formed regarding the Birgunj Sugar Factory, to analyse the financial, financial, technical and legal condition of the factory and to identify the problems in the factory.
Likewise, study will be carried out of the current condition of buildings, factory structures, machinery and spare parts in the factory premises and their usable status. The task force will also study whether the factory can be reopened using old structures and machinery or whether new technology and structures are needed.
Along with this, a study would be carried out on the land and other properties owned by the Birgunj Sugar Factory. The task force has been given the responsibility to identify the problems related to property and prepare necessary legal and managerial alternatives to resolve them.
In other words, the issue of Birgunj Sugar Factory, which has been limited to the assurance of running the factory for years, has been tried to conclude this time by studying the property, machinery, financial condition, legal complexities and feasibility of operation.
