Darchula. The suspension bridge over the Ojigad River at Hunainath of Malikarjun Rural Municipality-4 in the district has become unusable.

On April 15, 2018, Malikalikirjun Rural Municipality and the users’ committee had collaborated to construct the bridge.

The total cost of the suspension bridge, which is 77.40 meters long and 106 centimeters wide, was Rs 38,TAG_OPEN_div_22 65,208. According to Harish Thagunna, an overseer of the Social Welfare Society, which provided technical support to the bridge, the bridge has completed seven years of construction.

The suspension bridge, which was completed in the fiscal year 2076÷77, has been passed without even carrying the transit capacity. Locals said that the land owner had taken compensation for the land after the bridge fell in the field. However, the bridge became unused as there was no road to reach the main road due to the land falling below it.

Indra TAG_OPEN_div_17 Singh Dhami, acting chairman of Malikarjun Rural Municipality-4, said that the municipality had allocated Rs 50,000 for the construction of mule track leading to the bridge in the previous fiscal year.

Locals of the area have requested the ward office and the local government in writing to operate the suspension bridge, but the problem remains the same as before.TAG_OPEN_div_15
