Study task force formed to ensure procurement of chemical fertilizers produced after establishment of chemical fertilizer factory

Kathmandu. The Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Environment has formed a study task force to identify the necessary legal and policy provisions to ensure the purchase of fertilizers produced after the establishment of chemical fertilizer factory in Nepal.

Minister for Agriculture, Forest and Environment, Gita Chaudhary, has

formed a task force comprising experts from the Ministries of Agriculture, Finance, Industry and Energy and Public Procurement Monitoring Office.

The task force will study the market guarantee of chemical fertilizers, the possibility of government procurement, existing legal and policy provisions related to ensuring the purchase and the necessary institutional structure after the start of chemical fertilizer production in Nepal.

According to the Ministry, the task force has been formed to identify necessary legal and policy avenues in the absence of a clear legal provision regarding the purchase of domestically produced fertiliser in the context of the objective of reducing dependence on import by establishing chemical fertilizer factory in Nepal.

The taskforce will submit a report with suggestions on legal provisions, process and institutional arrangement for the procurement of fertiliser produced in Nepal within 30 days.

According to the Ministry, necessary legal amendments and policy and institutional arrangements would be forwarded on the basis of the taskforce’s report.
