Khusbu Oli questions Prime Minister Balendra Shah: Are you aware of the ‘setting’ happening under your nose?

KATHMANDU: Chief Whip of the opposition Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Khushbu Oli, has questioned the good governance and transparency of the government.

Speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday, Oli demanded a parliamentary probe committee to investigate into the appointment process of the Executive Director of Software Development and Operation Centre under the Office of the Prime Minister.

Lawmaker Oli accused Kiran Timsina, coordinator of the task force formed on May 25 to formulate work procedure as per the developments presented in the parliament.

She also shared a photo of Timsina cutting a cake with a LinkedIn post on her LinkedIn post titled “Oh Boy, This Was Tough” and then celebrating with staff at the Prime Minister’s Office.

According to Oli, the shortlist was hurriedly prepared on September 15 and the interview was conducted on September 18. She claimed that although the cabinet had taken a decision on the appointment on the same day, the information was not made public for five days.

“What kind of good governance is this to prepare the question papers yourself, participate on your own and celebrate before the advertisement is opened? Who stopped the government with 182 MPs from bringing the bill? The votes and notes of NRNs will be used but the rights will not work?” she asked.

She said that the tendency to remain silent in parliament and become revolutionary only on social media should end. “Stop the tendency of being silent in parliament and being revolutionary on Facebook. Politics is not done by looking at your convenience, but by asking the right questions at the right place,” Oli said.

Terming the appointment process as an ‘open setting’ against the spirit of the Good Governance Act, 2064, she also drew the attention of the Prime Minister. Meanwhile, Oli also raised the issue of citizenship of non-resident Nepalis in the House of Representatives. He said that it was unfortunate that the statement from the Foreign Minister was ‘not possible’ at a time when the Non-Resident Nepalis (NRNs) have been demanding continuity of citizenship.

Blaming the government’s double standards regarding the rights of Non-Resident Nepalis, she demanded that the government make its view public in this regard.
