Motihari-Amlekhgunj petroleum pipeline to be handed over

Bagmati. Preparations for handing over the Motihari-Amlekhgunj petroleum pipeline to Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) have reached the final stage. After the completion of all the work of pipeline expansion, petroleum products are being imported from Motihari to Amlekhgunj through the same pipeline.

Chief Acharya said that discussions were underway between the two sides on whether the two prime ministers would jointly inaugurate or hand over the pipeline. Similarly, the work of expanding the petroleum pipeline from Amlekhgunj of Bara to Lothar of Chitwan will be taken forward soon.

Chief TAG_OPEN_div_22 of Nepal Oil Corporation Madhes Provincial Office, Amlekhgunj, Acharya, said that the construction of the pipeline will be expedited within the next few days as the dpr construction work has reached the final stage by a high-level technical team to proceed with the construction of the 69-kilometer petroleum pipeline from Amlekhgunj to Lothar.

“TAG_OPEN_div_20 An office has already been set up in Chitwan to carry forward the pipeline work after the dpr construction work reached the final stage,” acharya said. The target is to complete the work within three years of its commencement, he added.

TAG_OPEN_div_18 The pipeline from Amlekhgunj to Lothar is going to start after the completion of the pipeline work from Motihari in India to Amlekhgunj in Bara and the import of petroleum products from the pipeline has started.

Chief Acharya said TAG_OPEN_div_16 that a tunnel would be constructed at Lothar in Chitwan to store 100,000 liters of petroleum products with a greenfield on a total of 23 bighas and 12 kattha land. Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) will carry out the work of expansion of Amlekhgunj-Lothar pipeline to be constructed through ‘G2G’ agreement between Nepal and India.

Meanwhile, TAG_OPEN_div_14 an Indian technical team is going to repair the oil corporation’s amlekhgunj-based petroleum loading unit after it developed a problem.
