Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The government is to scrap the contracts of development projects under the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Urban Development, which have been in limbo for a long time.
Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development Kul Man Ghising directed secretaries and departmental chiefs of all three ministries to prepare a list of dilapidated projects.
Inquiring about the performance of the three ministries, Minister Ghising said that the project would not be kept in limbo just by looking at the faces of the contractors who are not working there.
“On the one hand, the country is facing huge economic loss due to the failure to complete the ongoing big infrastructure projects on time and quality, while on the other hand, the citizens are being deprived of the benefits of such projects,” he said.
“We can’t carry out works without taking a decision, so we will work after making a decision,” he said, adding that the contracts of dilapidated projects should be scrapped and new contracts should be initiated. “More than three roads and more than 100 bridges under the national pride project of irrigation are in limbo.
Parliament House under construction by January
Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Urban Development Kulman Ghising said that the construction of the federal parliament building on the premises of Singha Durbar should be completed by mid-January.
On Thursday, Minister Ghising held discussion with Secretary at the Ministry of Urban Development Gopal Sigdel, the consultants of the Special Building Construction Project and Coordination Office, project consultants and contractors to complete the remaining works so that the remaining works are completed by January 2020.
“There is no parliament building at present after the parliament building was badly damaged during the Jenji movement,” he said, adding, “Therefore, the construction of the parliament building is a sensitive project. ’
The contract was signed in Asoj 2076 BS with an aim to complete the construction of the parliament building within three years. The contract, which has been extended for the fifth time, is expiring in December. The project has achieved 86 per cent physical progress.

Immediate action if irregularities are found

Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Urban Development Kulman Ghising has directed the officials concerned to stop the irregularities taking place in the bodies under his office. Minister Ghising warned of immediate action against those involved if any irregularities were found.
