Kathmandu. A month ago, on September 7 and 24, during the Zenji movement, the Birendra International Convention Centre, where the federal parliament is located, was burnt. During the agitation by Genji, the then convention center, now the parliament building, was burnt.
The 27-hour agitation toppled the government. Now the government has been formed on the strength of the Genji movement. Around 2,000 vehicles were burnt inside Singha Durbar and other government bodies have become dumping sites.
The place where the parliament sits, the laws necessary for the country and the voice of the people from far-flung areas were burnt down by the agitators on September 24 and turned into a dumping site after a month.
The parliament building was the first place where Genji started the arson during the movement. After this, Singha Durbar, Supreme Court, District Court, Traffic Office and various police offices were set on fire. The Federal Parliament Building has become a place to store the burnt vehicles.
The building was inaugurated by the then King Birendra in 2050 BS. The International Convention Centre, built with a grant of about Rs 180 million from the Chinese government, used to hold various big conferences. High-level meetings were held.
After the Constituent Assembly elections, it was known as the Parliament House. After being destroyed in the Jenji movement, it has become a dumping site to store the burnt vehicles.
