Kathmandu. A meeting was held between the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and Finance Minister Rameshwor Khanal today. A delegation led by FNCCI President Bhagirath Sapkota met Finance Minister Khanal and drew his attention towards the attack on industrialists during the Genji agitation on September 7 and 24.
“It is very wrong and condemnable that the business structures were vandalized and demolished in the name of Jenji on September 24 even though Jenji had staged an agitation on September 7,” he said, adding, “If the government does not take action against those involved in such criminal activities, there will be no business environment in the country.” ’
Similarly, Sapkota said that if the Genji movement is kept in a single basket, it will spread more anarchy in the coming days. “We have not protested against the issue raised by Jenji and the way they agitated on the 23rd,” he said, “But the government should immediately take action against the businessmen, industrialists, businessmen, general public and state property that was burnt on the 24th.” Stating that the criminal activities carried out in the name of Genji Agitation have demoralized the businessmen, the FNCCI urged the government to play a role to uplift it.
The federation also said that the current economic recovery is not a simple initiative but a booster dose is needed by the state. Similarly, the federation demanded that the government should take initiative to resolve the dispute over the dedicated drug line.
During the meeting, Finance Minister Khanal said that the incident caused by the Genji movement would be divided into two parts. The Finance Minister said that it was wrong to vandalize and set fire to business structures in the name of agitation and action would be taken against the guilty. He also said that the incumbent government was taking initiatives to create business environment in the country.
