Rs 58 crore lost in Nawalpur during ‘Genji’ protest

Nawalparasi. Damage worth Rs 580 million has been caused in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Susta East) due to arson and vandalism during the ‘Genji’ demonstration on September 10.

Bhabiswar Pandey, Chief District Officer, informed that the incident caused loss of around Rs 580 million due to arson and vandalism on government and private properties in the district during the demonstration. According to him, 40 vehicles and 53 physical structures were damaged in the agitation in the district.

Chief District Officer Pandey said that investigation is underway on one four-wheeler, four motorcycles and three motorcycles of the government offices in the district while 21 vehicles including nine motorcycles, five four-wheelers and seven cycles were damaged in the incident.

According to him, nine motorcycles of the local level have been completely damaged. Similarly, two four-wheelers have been completely damaged while three others have partially been damaged. As many as 14 private vehicles have been damaged in the incident.

Of the 40 vehicles damaged in the district, 17 motorcycles were completely damaged while five partial vehicles and four four÷-wheelers were completely and partially damaged. Chief District Officer Pandey informed that 53 physical structures were damaged in the protest and five private houses were completely damaged.

Two police units, three police beats and a government office in Gandaki Province were torched and vandalized in the district. Similarly, three municipal offices and six ward offices were torched.

The arson and vandalism caused damages to 15 houses of political parties and people’s representatives in the district. Similarly, IME Group’s Maulakali Cable Car and Baburam Jewelry Shops were also torched and vandalized. The district party offices and 12 municipal offices of four political parties were torched and vandalized in course of the agitation.
