Mustang. Two Nepali tourists stranded in the snow at Chharka Verol bordering Mustang and Dolpa have been rescued by helicopter this morning. The rescue operation was carried out in coordination with the District Administration Office, Mustang, using an air dynamic helicopter with the assistance of Nepal Army.
Manish GC of Parbat and Santosh Kunwar of Myagdi were rescued in coordination with the Nepal Army after receiving information that they were trapped on the border of Mustang and Dolpa due to heavy snowfall, Chief District Officer of Mustang Bishnu Prasad Bhusal said.
The duo had stayed at Sangta village of Waragung Mukti Kshetra-5 in Mustang on the first day of their visit to Upper Dolpa. After that, he went to Chharka of Upper Dolpa to visit Upper Dolpa via Sangta village. GC and Kunwar, who were stranded at Chharka of Upper Dolpa due to adverse weather and heavy snowfall, have been stuck at Chharka for six days, he said.
GC and Kunwar, who were waiting to return to Mustang after the snowfall stopped, had left for Mustang via Chharka along with local contractor Bikash Rokaya on November 1. The two tourists, who were accompanying them, were separated from the Rokaya Chharka barrel.
CDO Bhusal said that although Rokaya was a local resident, they had been stranded for four days as they could not identify the trekking route from Chharka Barrel which is located at an altitude of five thousand meters above sea level. According to him, Rokaya had informed the local administration through satellite phone that two tourists were stranded in Chharka Barrel.
Chief District Officer Bhusal shared that a team comprising two army personnel from the Indrabaks battalion of the Nepal Army reached and rescued the tourists by helicopter.
GC, a tourist, said they were stranded at the border of Mustang and Dolpa for four days due to heavy snowfall in Upper Dolpa. According to him, the local administration and the army rescued Rokaya following information provided by him.
