2 arrested including former vice-president of Airlines Operators Association of Nepal for fake rescue

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Two more people have been arrested in connection with the fake rescue of tourists in the mountaineering area.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has arrested former vice-president of the Airlines Operators Association of Nepal Rajendra Bahadur Singh and Sandip Tiwari.

According to him, Tiwari is the proprietor of Royal Holiday Adventure and Travel Company.  Singh of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-31 was arrested today while Tiwari of Jwalamukhi Rural Municipality-2 of Dhading was arrested on Tuesday.

So far, police have arrested 9 people including a trekking company, rescue company, hospital, local agent of foreign insurance and operator of helicopter company. They are being investigated for organized crime, the bureau said.

According to the Bureau, the investigation has revealed that foreign tourists who were in health problems while trekking in high mountainous areas were rescued and illegally obtained financial benefits by claiming insurance money.
