Kathmandu. Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei’s military adviser Mohsen Rezaei has been quoted as saying that Iran will not withdraw from the Strait of Hormuz until its rights are fully secured.
According to media reports, this was a stern warning to the United States after the military blockade on Iranian ports.
Rezaei, a former commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), said he would maintain control over Iran’s waters under restrictions on economic and maritime activities.
“Iran will not leave the Strait of Hormuz until its rights are fully secured,” he said, adding that the agreements need to be drafted more carefully, drawing on past negotiations.
The Strait of Hormuz has been at the centre of the conflict between Iran and the United States in recent years.
The U.S. military has blocked key regional waterways, including the Strait of Hormuz, as the United States announced on Wednesday that it had implemented blockades on Iran’s ports.
CENTCOM commander Admiral Brad Cooper said in a statement that US forces would enter Iran within 36 hours of the operation begining.
