Nine climbers climb Dhaulagiri on first day

Myagdi. KATHMANDU: The climbing of Dhaulagiri Peak in the current spring season has begun. The height of Mt Dhaulagiri located in Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality-4 is 8,167 metres.

Four foreigners and five Nepalis climbed the mountain successfully on Saturday with the help of Imagine Nepal Company. Liu Hong, Liu Yishi, Wang, Zhong from China, Christine Vogondi from Switzerland, Phur Gyalzen Sherpa, Pasang Namgel Sherpa, Kili Pemba Sherpa, Ngima Nuru Sherpa and Pemba Chhiri Sherpa from Nepal climbed Dhaulagiri.

The team that reached the top of Dhaulagiri at 11:40 pm on Saturday returned safely to the third base camp, said Phur Gyaljen Sherpa, who is leading the expedition team. A team of Sherpas pulled ropes through the snow to prepare a path, with the help of them, the climbers reached the peak.

According to the Department of Tourism, 12 women and 16 men of three groups have taken permission to climb Dhaulagiri in the spring season. Section Officer at Department of Tourism, Sharmila Banjade, said that they received Rs 12.5 million 60 thousand 850 as salute fee from those who took the permit. Last autumn, 36 mountaineers had taken permission to climb Mt Dhaulagiri.

Changing weather is a challenge of climbing Dhaulagiri. Compared to other mountains, Dhaulagiri is considered risky and adventurous. On May 13, 1960, Kurt Dimberger of Austria climbed Dhaulagiri for the first time. Along with Dimberger, Peter Diener, Anst Fourer, Albin Selbert, Nima Dorge and Nawang Dorge reached the top of Dhaulagiri for the first time.
