Kathmandu. At a time when discussions are underway on the autonomy of the Nepal Rastra Bank, officials of the Ministry of Finance are going to be obstructed.

Lawmakers of the ruling party have been saying that the secretary of the ministry should not be sent to the NRB as a director to make the Nepal Rastra Bank more autonomous.

However, Mahesh Acharya, joint secretary at the Ministry of Finance, has claimed that the secretary of the Ministry of Finance should not break it in the Nepal Rastra Bank. The issue was raised by RSP lawmaker Lima Adhikari in the meeting.

During the discussion on the bill to amend the Nepal Rastra Bank Act-2058 BS held at the Finance Committee today, Acharya took a stand that the Finance Secretary should not break the NRB.

Joint Secretary Acharya said that the NRB should not be kept separate from the government under any circumstances. During the meeting, he said that the issue of amendment of the Act has come up in a very subtle manner.

“Now we’re talking about autonomy, autonomy. We are talking about the autonomy of Nepal Rastra Bank,” he said, adding, “Nepal Rastra Bank cannot work from the side. It is with the government of Nepal. ”

He claimed that the overall economic policy would not be possible if the monetary policy and fiscal policy did not go together. He claims that whatever the subject is, autonomy is called autonomy and is very separate from the government. He argues that this issue should be given a lot of attention in the amendment of the Act.

He argues that if autonomy is given in such a way that it is separated from the government, it will be difficult, if the monetary policy is given to support the government’s policy, then there will be chaos.

Joint Secretary Acharya, who is adamant about not allowing the NRB to become autonomous, also apprised the lawmakers about the US and UK system. He reminded that Nepal has been following the American governance system rather than Nepal. He argues that Nepalis should look at the customs of India and the UK, while the American practice should not be applicable in Nepal.

“The British tradition seems to be similar to ours. In the UK, there are three representatives of the government and a committee for monetary policy. There is a financial committee and a prudential committee. The finance minister sends people to the three committees, the treasury people. There is no complete autonomy there. “If we don’t follow that, there will be a big problem in the future,” he said. He claims that he will not be able to coordinate in the coming days.
