Kathmandu. A total of 384 tourists and passengers have gone missing in a flash flood in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa district on Wednesday morning. According to the Nepal Tourism Board, 291 foreign nationals and 93 Nepali nationals are among the missing.

The Nepal Tourism Board, tourist police and the bodies related to tourism sector have been carrying out search and collecting details about the condition of tourists who are in the flood-affected areas or traveling through the area.

According to preliminary data received from tourism and travel companies, the highest number of missing foreign nationals are Indian nationals. Of the 71 people reported missing from Samrat Tours and Travels, 59 are Indian nationals. Similarly, out of the 55 people missing from Leif Holidays, 46 are Indian nationals, according to the board’s data.

Similarly, 20 of the 27 people missing from Fishtail Tours and Travels are foreigners, including three Americans and 17 Malaysians. Of the 20 people missing from Alpine Eco Trek, 16 are foreigners. Of them, 12 are from the UK and four from South Africa, the board said.

The details received from travel agencies and tourism companies are still preliminary, so the real condition of the reported missing tourists and travellers is being verified in coordination with the concerned agencies, guides, local administration and security bodies, said Nepal Tourism Board.

The board has urged people to contact the toll-free number 1234, hotline 1144 or tourist police on 9851289445 if they need emergency assistance. Also, they have been requested to inform the nearest police and security agencies, local administration, travel agencies, guides or tour operators.

The board has urged tourists to remain patient, follow only official information and follow the instructions of the security agencies.
