KATHMANDU: The two provincial committees of the CPN-UML have announced to contribute Rs 2 million to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for the relief and rescue of those affected by the floods in Rasuwa.

Party Secretary and Bagmati Province In-charge Mahesh Basnet said that the assistance was announced in the presence of CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli while bidding farewell to a team of Youth Volunteer Force (SOLF) heading to the flood-hit areas today.

He said that UML’s Bagmati Province Committee and Capital Province Committee would provide Rs 10 lakh each and the support would be provided by collecting funds from all levels of committees. Earlier, UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel led by Secretary Dr Rajan Bhattarai, Chief of the Policy Study Academy Bishnu Rimal, Chief of the People’s Organization Coordination Mechanism Bishal Bhattarai, Chief of Health Department Krishna Gopal Shrestha, Chief of Publicity and Publication Department Niraj Acharya and chiefs of various people’s organizations reached Bidur of Nuwakot on Thursday and took stock of the situation in the flood-affected areas.

The team had inquired from the locals about the situation in the affected areas, the need for rescue and relief and the immediate work to be done. The UML has made preparations to mobilize party leaders and cadres in relief, rescue and volunteer work during the disaster.

Diaspora Committee to give 20 lakh

The Nepali Forum and International Committee close to the CPN-UML have pledged to contribute Rs 2 million to the rescue and relief fund for the victims of floods and landslides. An emergency meeting of the committee’s secretariat decided to provide the amount from the committee’s fund for immediate relief and assistance to the flood-affected people realizing its responsibility towards the motherland.
