Kathmandu. The traditional cultural festival ‘Gai Jatra’, which is celebrated every year from Bhadra Krishna Pratipada to Ashtami, is celebrated today.

In the memory of the relatives who have passed away within a year, on this day, a cow or man is adorned as a cow and circumambulated in their respective fields and milk, fruits, bread, beaten rice, curd, as well as grains and money are donated to them by the devotees. There is a religious belief that by circumambulating the city in this way, the people who die during the year hold the tail of the cow and cross the Baitarani.

It is a historical fact that this festival started by King Pratap Malla to show that the world should also bear the same grief for his queen, who was overwhelmed by the grief of her son. It is also said that the tradition of satire started as the queen could not calm her mind, so she ordered various types of farces and satirical programs.

} The tradition of Gai Jatra is still going through the royal palace (royal palace) at Hanuman Dhoka. Although Gai Jatra is celebrated in different cities of the country, its special charm is seen in the valley.
