Kathmandu. China’s Ministry of Water Resources has said that there is still a risk of glacial collapse in the Chochen River area of Nepal. Chinese state media CCTV News on Tuesday quoted China’s Ministry of Water Resources as saying that there is a risk of more glaciers falling in the Chochen River area.
According to the ministry, continuous consultations and assessments are being carried out on the risks related to the debris flow disaster that occurred in Gyirong County under the Tibet Autonomous Region of southwest China. The overall status of the potential risks associated with the disaster is being studied regularly.
According to a comparative analysis of recent remote sensing images, the water levels of the 14 glacial lakes identified earlier in the Gyirong Tsangpo River Basin did not show significant change. The ministry said the glacial lakes were in stable condition overall.
According to the photo taken by the drone at 8 am on Tuesday, a large part of the water collected in the impact crater formed in the Chochen Khola river on the Nepal side has already drained out. The flow of the river downstream from the area is also normal, according to the CCTV.
However, China’s Ministry of Water Resources claims that the risk of glaciers collapsing around the impact zone still remains. The ministry said the risk is being continuously monitored and evaluated.
