Flood in Lalbakaiya River threatens embankment at Maulapur

Rautahat. The flood in the Lalbakaiya River following incessant rains has intensified the erosion of the embankment at Maryadapur of Maulapur Municipality-2 in Rautahat district, affecting the settlements and surrounding areas.

{{TAG_OPEN_div_22} The river is facing the risk of erosion taking place in the areas around the embankment due to the rise in the water level in the river.

Meanwhile, a team comprising the district administration and local people’s representatives inspected the disaster-hit areas today itself and requested the flood-affected locals to remain assured at a time when normal life has been affected by the floods triggered by incessant rainfall.TAG_OPEN_div_20

A team comprising Chief District Officer of Rautahat Laxmi Prasad Poudel, Superintendent of Police Sitaram Rijal, security personnel and Maulapur Municipality Mayor Rinadevi Sah and people’s representatives inspected the embankment and the erosion-affected areas and held discussions with the flood-affected people today.TAG_OPEN_div_18

On the occasion, Chief District Officer Poudel warned that settlements in Maulapur, Gamhariya, Barginiya, Sheetalpur, Santapur and Petbharwa would be affected if the embankment of the Lalbakaiya River at Maryadapur was breached.TAG_OPEN_div_16

He also directed the teams of Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police to continuously monitor the condition of embankments and river flow by mobilizing teams in vulnerable zones.TAG_OPEN_div_14

Similarly, the District TAG_OPEN_div_12 Administration Office (DAO) has urged the people of the district headquarters Gaur and the surrounding areas affected by the embankment at Bhagwanpur area near Fatuwa bridge to be alert as the embankment has also eroded.
