Kathmandu. Minister for Information and Communications Dr. Bikram Timilsina has postponed his scheduled visit to attend the ‘Global ICT Leadership Forum’ to be held in Seoul, the capital of the Republic of Korea.
The visit of Minister Timilsina to Korea was approved by the cabinet meeting held on August 3, 2083. He was preparing to go to Korea for a program to be held in Seoul from September 30 to October 9, 2026. However, due to floods, landslides and incessant rains in different parts of the country, there was a huge loss of life and property.TAG_OPEN_div_22
Floods and landslides in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Chitwan and other districts were badly damaged due to the floods in the Bhotekoshi River on August 23. Similarly, due to incessant rainfall from September 23 to 24, floods, landslides and inundation have occurred again in different parts of the country. The disaster has caused human loss as well as damage to physical infrastructures including roads, bridges, electricity, communications. Rescue, relief and rehabilitation works are still going on in the disaster-affected areas.
The government has given priority to rescue and relief management in the affected areas. It has become an important responsibility of the government to make the communication communication as regular and effective as possible at a time when there are difficulties in rescue, relief, coordination and contact with the affected people due to the disruption of telecommunication and internet services in the areas affected by floods and landslides.
Keeping this situation in mind, Minister for Communications Dr. Timilsina has given priority to disaster management within the country and the rehabilitation and continuity of communication services in the affected areas.
} The Ministry of Communications has requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to inform the organizers that they cannot participate in the Korea visit as per the pre-scheduled program. The main reason for the postponement of the visit is the uncomfortable situation caused by the disaster in different parts of the country and the need to give priority to rescue, relief, rehabilitation and operation of communication services in the affected areas, according to the Ministry of Communications.
