KATHMANDU: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has decided to provide Rs 17,78,676 to Binod Tamang of Ramechhap, who was seriously injured in an electricity accident.

A meeting of the Board of Directors of the NEA has decided to provide compensation to Tamang, who was injured in an electricity accident at Simal Bhanjyang Kharkavite of Ramechhap Municipality-5, as compensation for medical expenses, loss of life and disability.

Tamang, 27, was electrocuted while touching the temporary stay of the 11 KV distribution line. After the accident, Tamang was treated at Kathmandu Medical College.

According to the NRA Accident Compensation Bylaws, 2067, compensation of Rs 7,18,676 will be provided to Tamang in case of complete permanent disability and disability due to the accident. According to the same provision, Tamang will be provided Rs 1,778,676 for complete disability. The NRA has already paid Rs 50,000 to Tamang for complete disability. The NRA has already paid Rs 500,000 to Tamang.

The NRA Medical Board had studied the bills, compensation, medical prescriptions and other documents related to Tamang’s treatment. The board with specialist doctors had recommended that the remaining amount be paid for accident compensation by deducting advance from the expenses incurred for treatment.

According to the bylaws, the recommendation of the doctor involved in the treatment is sufficient for the treatment expense of up to Rs 2 lakh, but for the treatment expense of more than that, the recommendation of the authority medical board is required. Since Tamang’s treatment expenses are more than Rs 2 lakh, the medical board has made necessary study and recommendation.

The bylaws provide for medical treatment and compensation in case of death or injury to the contractual and daily wage workers or the general public employed by the NRA. Similarly, in case of death or serious injury due to accident, compensation of up to Rs 10 lakh can be provided to each person.
