Electric vehicle growth in Singapore is expected to reach 85 per cent by 2035

Kathmandu. Electric vehicle sales in Singapore are expected to increase by 34.3 percent to 34,940 units in 2026. With this, the share of electric vehicles in total vehicle sales will increase to 54.6 percent, according to the research institute.

Government tax exemptions and incentives, the growing availability of new models of affordable electric vehicles produced in the Chinese mainland and the expansion of charging infrastructure will all contribute to the growth in sales.

As of June 2026, 70 per cent of new vehicles registered in Singapore were electric vehicles. This trend is expected to continue until 2035, when 44 per cent of Singapore’s total vehicles will be electric.

Government subsidies and rebates as well as a program to support the installation of electric vehicle chargers in private homes are expected to sustain demand. By 2035, the share of electric vehicles in total vehicle sales is projected to reach 85 percent.

In the first quarter of 2026, electric vehicles accounted for 57.6 percent of new car registrations, which is equivalent to 7,679 vehicles. For the first time, sales of electric vehicles in Singapore exceeded sales of petrol and diesel-powered and mixed-technology vehicles.
