Former President of CAN Federation Nawaraj Kunwar re-elected as Vice President of Association

KATHMANDU: Nawaraj Kunwar, former president of the Federation of Computer Association Nepal (CAN Federation), has been re-elected as the Vice President of the Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organization (ASOCIO).

The 42nd annual general meeting and convention of the Association held recently in Jakarta, Indonesia has unanimously elected Kunwar the Vice President for a term of 2027-28.

Kunwar had previously served as the vice-president of the association since 2022, representing the CAN federation. He had served as the vice-president for the 2022/2024 and 2025/2026 terms.

Kunwar said that his re-election to the post of Vice President has further energized his efforts to establish Nepal’s information technology sector in the international arena.

“I am trying to establish Nepal in the international forum in the field of information technology. Nepal can be further established in the global ICT sector by building a strong technology system in Asian countries through ASOSIO,” Kunwar said.

According to him, this will create new opportunities for innovation, economic growth and international cooperation, as well as help bridge the technological gap between the developing and least developed countries of Asia.

The new executive committee comprises representatives from Nepal, Malaysia, Thailand, Macau, Myanmar, Japan, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Taiwan, Indonesia, Laos, Singapore and the Philippines.

General Secretary of CAN Federation, Chandra Bilas Bhurtel, said that under the leadership of Kunwar, Kunwar played an important role in making Nepali IT sector and institutions known in the international arena.

He expressed the belief that Kunwar would make a significant contribution in his upcoming term as well and Nepal could benefit from it.

“We believe that his representation in ASOSIO will further support the CAN Federation’s efforts to expand everyone’s access to the changing technology and digital economy and build a prosperous Nepal through ICT,” Bhurtel said.
