US President Donald Trump has claimed that he is eligible for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize and said that he has resolved eight conflicts since he started his second term.

TAG_OPEN_div_31 Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said the award would be announced on Friday, adding that “it’s a matter of time.” He claimed that whether he received the award or not, he had done more for peace than anyone else.

“I have done something that no one else has done. I am not boasting, I am just telling you the facts. I have resolved eight wars,” he said.

Trump said that the Nobel Committee has made it a prestige that it does not give awards to people like him, but it does not diminish the importance of his work. He also questioned the award of the Nobel Peace Prize to the then President Barack Obama in 2009.

Trump also said he had met with Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corinna Machado, who won the Nobel Peace Prize last year, and said he had given her the medal.TAG_OPEN_div_25

But his claims that conflict has resurfaced in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Cambodia-Thailand border and that a lasting peace in Ukraine has not been maintained.TAG_OPEN_div_21

The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded independently by the Norwegian Nobel Committee in Oslo, Norway. Pope Leo, the International Criminal Court and the United Nations Special Rapporteur for the Palestinian Territories are among the possible contenders for 2026.
