Kathmandu. The Dana-Rahughat section of the 220 KV transmission line of the Kaligandaki Corridor has been reopened after 21 days.

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has temporarily brought the section into operation using the Emergency Rehabilitation System (ERS) tower. A 220 KV circuit of the transmission line was charged and brought into operation temporarily at 10:15 pm on Saturday.

The flood had damaged four towers of the transmission line at Pokhrebagar in Annapurna Rural Municipality-6 of Myagdi. Among them, towers 21, 23 and 24 were completely damaged while tower number 22 was partially damaged. A total of 170 MW of electricity generated from five hydropower projects of the private sector connected to the national transmission system through the Dana substation could not be supplied to the national grid after the transmission line was disrupted. With the operation of the line, the electricity generated from these projects has been reconnected to the national transmission system.

After the construction of the permanent tower, the Dana-Rahughat section of the transmission line will come into operation on a regular basis. The Kaligandaki Corridor 220 kV double circuit transmission line has been constructed with the objective of integrating the electricity generated from the hydropower projects to be built in Kaligandaki and its tributaries and supplying it to the national grid. The total length of this transmission line is about 130 kilometers, starting from Dana substation in Annapurna Rural Municipality-3 of Myagdi to reaching New Butwal Substation in Sunwal Municipality-13 of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta West) via Parbat, Baglung, Syangja, Palpa and Rupandehi. The transmission line has the capacity to transmit about 1,200 MW of electricity.
