Kathmandu. Infrastructure Development Minister Sunil Lamsal held a meeting with the people’s representatives of the affected areas on Sunday.

After normal life across the country was affected by floods and landslides, Minister Lamsal held discussion with the people’s representatives of the affected areas, including Prime Minister’s advisor Sudip Dhakal, regarding the rehabilitation of citizens and reconstruction of damaged physical infrastructures.

During the meeting, discussions were held on the arrangement of temporary shelter for the families displaced by the floods and the immediate reconstruction of the damaged structures. Minister Lamsal said that the reconstruction work of bridges, roads, suspension bridges, drinking water and other projects damaged by floods and rains of the last three days would be carried out through tender process after immediately managing the budget. During the discussion, he expressed his commitment to start the reconstruction work within this month.

Incessant rain and floods have swept away the approach road to the bridge at Pokhrebagar of Myagdi, Maldhunga of Baglung and Dedgaun of Nawalparasi under the Kaligandaki Corridor. The concrete bridges of the Kaligandaki have been washed away. Various road sections of the Kaligandaki corridor as well as the Dumre Besisahar-Chame road have been badly damaged.

About 40 meters of the road has been completely submerged due to the erosion of the Marsyangdi river in Rambazaar, Syangge, Lamjung under the Dumre Besisahar Chame road section. The road has been blocked due to landslides with stones in Naso, Khotro Manang. About 50 meters of the road has completely submerged due to the erosion of the Marsyangdi river in Naso, Bagarchhap, Manang. Three temporary wooden bridges have been washed away due to floods in Chame and Manang. More than a dozen roads in various districts, including the Prithvi Highway, BP Highway and Kanti Highway connecting the Kathmandu Valley, have been damaged due to floods and landslides.

The Nathigad suspension bridge in Rukum East and the Baglung-Parbat Jaljala Forse suspension bridge have been completely damaged due to floods and landslides. The suspension bridge connecting Ghiring Karuwatar of Tanahun and Bulingtar Machedi of Nawalpur, the suspension bridge connecting Galyang Belchaur of Syangja and Rambha of Palpa, Naugaun-Sathi Bazaar of Palpa, the suspension bridge connecting Kasiban of Palpa to Atrauli of Tanahun, the Setibeni suspension bridge connecting Parbat and Syangja and the suspension bridge connecting Beni-Parbat of Myagdi have been partially damaged. According to preliminary reports, 31 drinking water projects have been damaged by floods and landslides.
