Kathmandu. At least eight people have been killed in Israeli strikes in Gaza, according to a spokesman for the Palestinian Civil Defense Agency.
Seven people were killed in Israeli airstrikes on residential buildings in Gaza and one in the attack on the al-Sati refugee camp in the west of Gaza City, spokesman Mahmoud Bass said.
He also said 15 people were wounded in the attack on Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City. The ceasefire has been in place since October, but continued Israeli offensive has led to a spike in violence in the Gaza Strip, with many under Israeli military detention for defying the terms of the ceasefire.
Israel has killed at least 936 people since the ceasefire began, according to Gaza’s health ministry. In recent years, both Hamas and Israel have accused each other of violating the ceasefire.
The first phase of the ceasefire involved the release of the last Israeli hostages held by Hamas in exchange for Palestinians held hostage by Israel.
The second phase of the ceasefire was expected to include the disarmament of Hamas and the gradual withdrawal of Israeli troops, but the process has not taken effect for months.
Last week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he had ordered the army to take control of 70 percent of Gaza.
Mohammed Odeh, the head of Hamas’ armed branch in Gaza, was killed in an Israeli strike last week.
