Property Investigation Commission won’t interfere in CIAA’s works: Finance Minister Wagle

Kathmandu. Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle has said that the Property Investigation Commission has been formed to address the people’s demand for an end to corruption and good governance in the country as well as to investigate the assets of political and public officials in line with the commitment made by the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) to the people.

Finance Minister Dr Wagle said this while responding to the queries raised during the discussion on various topics related to the Office of the President, the Office of the Vice President, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Defence and the National Planning Commission during the discussion on the Appropriation Bill-2083 in the meeting of the House of Representatives today.

He clarified that the commission was not a permanent commission to be involved in property investigation and investigation, adding that it would recommend to the government to take action against those found illegally amassing property by investigating the properties of designated officials.

Therefore, this will not interfere in the functioning of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), which is a constitutional commission, said Dr Wagle. He expressed the belief that the formation of the commission would discourage the tendency of amassing illegal property by misusing position and power as it would establish the belief that the property acquired illegally by any official holding a public post would be investigated.
