Kathmandu. Gandaki Province has collected more than Rs 126.9 million in revenue from the action taken against vehicles violating traffic rules so far in the current fiscal year.
According to the Nepal Police Highway Security and Traffic Management Office, Pokhara, a total of 141,630 traffic offenses have been taken in 11 districts of the province till mid-June of the current fiscal year.
Office Chief and Superintendent of Police Govinda Raj Kafle said that the office has collected Rs 126.949 million revenue from the action.
According to him, the maximum action has been taken against the vehicles carrying more passengers than the capacity. Out of this, action was taken against 18,827 vehicles and Rs 16.4 million revenue was collected.
A total of 11,969 drivers have been taken to task for driving under the influence of alcohol. A total of 65,82,500 revenue has been collected from this. Superintendent of Police Kafle said that action was taken against 7,023 vehicles for overloading and 9,478,705 were collected.
A total of 5,794 vehicles were taken action for speeding and 3,455,500 revenue was collected. Out of 3,360 actions taken against the vehicles, 6,603,500 have been collected.
Similarly, Rs 573,000 was collected from 1,041 vehicles violating lane discipline. A total of 24,84,363 vehicles were taken into action for noise pollution, stunts and change of form.
Similarly, the Nepal Police Highway Security and Traffic Management Office said that Rs 81.2 million 79 thousand 500 was collected from various other vehicle actions.
According to the Traffic Police, vigilance and action against the vehicles violating the rules have been tightened in order to make road safety effective. According to the office, operating vehicles without license, drunkenness, speeding and the tendency to carry passengers beyond their capacity are still the challenges.
“Active participation of all sides is necessary to reduce road accidents, increase traffic awareness and develop a modern traffic management system,” he said. This alone will help reduce the loss of human and physical property due to increasing number of road accidents,” SP Kafle said.
