. The second meeting of the House of Representatives today unanimously endorsed the ‘Money Laundering Prevention (Third Amendment) Bill, 2083’.
The bill was passed for decision after a discussion in principle on the bill brought to replace the ordinance.TAG_OPEN_div_20 Lawmakers interested in amending the bill have been urged to submit the bill to the Federal Parliament section.
Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle presented a proposal seeking consideration on the bill.TAG_OPEN_div_17 Responding to the queries raised during the discussions, Minister Wagle clarified that the laws were amended to address the challenges that Nepal would come out of such ‘black spot’ as the international community was closely studying the issue of money laundering in Nepal.
Stating that the authorities concerned were working to remove Nepal’s aviation sector from the ‘blacklist’ kept by the European Commission, he said the government was ready to effectively implement the existing laws and policies.TAG_OPEN_div_15 He made it clear that no investigation would be carried out selectively based on political motives.
Lawmakers Bishwaraj Pokhrel, Bidushi Rana, Parasmani Gelal, Aren Rai, Chandra Mohan Yadav and Geeta Gurung took part in the discussions.TAG_OPEN_div_13
The lawmakers stressed on the need for legal stringency to control illegal wealth amassment, impartial investigation without discriminating against those amassing disproportionate assets and initiation to get Nepal out of the ‘grey list’ of money laundering.TAG_OPEN_div_11
