Locals of Manakamana area facing mobility after suspension bridge collapses

Gorkha. Residents of 1500 households in and around Manakamana of Shahid Lakhan Rural Municipality-3 have been facing problems after the floods along with the recent monsoon damaged the suspension bridge linking Silingtar and Cheres.

Ward Chairman Deepak Pandey said that the suspension bridge connecting Silingtar of Sahidalkhan Rural Municipality-3 and the lower station of Manakamana Cable Car (Chares) has been damaged. “Locals of Silingtar, Kewarpani and Manakamana Hatiya have been facing problems in reaching the highway after the bridge was damaged. More than 50 students going to schools and colleges in Kurintar and Muglin have also been facing problems. It is also difficult to go to the market to sell the vegetables produced by the farmers and to buy essential commodities from the market.TAG_OPEN_div_6

} He said, “Since there is no bridge here, one has to travel one and a half to two hours to reach Theuwatar to cross another bridge.” Earlier, the pilgrims of Manakamana, who could not or did not want to board a cable car, used to cross the bridge to reach Silingtar and from there they used to reach the temple by bus and jeep. “Devotees are also facing problems due to the lack of bridges,” said ward chair Pandey, adding, “This time it has deteriorated in such a way that there is no place to park the bridge jeep.”
