At least 27 killed, 4 missing, 8 injured in floods and landslides

Kathmandu. In the recent period, 27 people have lost their lives in 542 incidents of disasters across the country.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), 4 people are missing and 8 people have been injured in the disasters that took place from September 24 to 11. As many as 1,082 families have been affected by these disasters and 114 livestock have been damaged.TAG_OPEN_div_37

According to the NRA, 20 people were killed, four missing and seven injured in 304 incidents of landslides during the period. Similarly, in 87 incidents of floods, four people were killed. Three people died and one was injured in 151 incidents related to heavy rains.TAG_OPEN_div_35

According to the NRA, more than 100 millimeters of rain was recorded at 186 rainfall stations across the country during the four-day rainfall. The highest rainfall of 544.2 millimeters was recorded at Dedhgaun of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East), 500.2 millimeters at Panchase of Kaski and 472 millimeters at Atraulitar of Tanahun.TAG_OPEN_div_30

According to the Nepal Meteorological Forecasting Authority, heavy rainfall occurred in various parts of the country during the period due to the low pressure system developed in the Bay of Bengal.TAG_OPEN_div_28

NRA Spokesperson Shanti Mahat said that around two thousand people who were at risk due to rain-induced disasters have been shifted to safer places.TAG_OPEN_div_26

TAG_OPEN_div_24 According to him, people trapped in floods and landslides in remote districts including Jajarkot, Myagdi and Baglung were rescued by helicopter. Security personnel including Nepal Police, Armed Police Force Nepal and Nepal Army were mobilized for the search, rescue and relief operations.

She said, “On September 27, 78 people who were at risk were rescued by helicopter at Annapurna Rural Municipality-5 in Myagdi and shifted to a safe place.” The report also states that four people who were stranded on the island in the middle of the Bheri River in Jajarkot were also airlifted.
