Kathmandu. The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation has formed a high-level committee with the participation of the private sector to resolve the problems seen in the course of policy facilitation and project implementation for the development of the energy sector.

The committee has been formed under the coordination of Sunil Poudel, Joint Secretary of the Energy Division of the Ministry. The members of the committee are Joint Secretary of the Law and Decision Enforcement Division of the Ministry, Yagya Prasad Bhattarai, Deputy Director General of the Department of Electricity Development and Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority Dirgha Kumar Shrestha.

Narendra Ballav Pant, Abhidnya Malla and Anup Acharya will represent the Independent Power Producers’ Association of Nepal (IPPAN) as members. Engineer Shirish Pandey is also a member of the committee.

Senior divisional engineer at the ministry’s renewable energy and carbon trade promotion section, Shalikram Bhandari, has been assigned the responsibility of member-secretary of the committee.

The committee will identify the policy, legal and implementation complexities of the projects under the energy sector. In addition, it will advise the ministry on the issues seen in the implementation of the project and the necessary policy and practical facilitation for the development of the energy sector.
