{{TAG_OPEN_div_36} Kathmandu. The construction of Matatirtha-Chobhar section of the Thankot-Chapagaun-Bhaktapur 132 KV transmission line project has been completed.

The 6-kilometer-long 132 KV transmission line from Matatirtha substation to Chobhar substation in Kathmandu will be charged from Friday. After the line is charged, the Matatirtha-Chobhar section will be connected to the national transmission system and electricity will be supplied regularly.

Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Dirghayun Kumar Shrestha said that the balance between demand and supply of electricity will be easier after the operation of Matatirtha-Chobhar transmission line and Chobhar substation. Executive Director Shrestha said that the construction of about 4.5 kilometers 132 KV underground transmission line from Chobhar substation to Patan has also been forwarded with high priority.TAG_OPEN_div_32

The NEA had decided on September 24 to charge the Matatirtha-Chobhar transmission line within 15 days to manage the increasing demand of electricity in the Kathmandu Valley in the coming winter. As part of the infrastructure required to charge the line, two ways have been constructed at Chobhar substation.TAG_OPEN_div_30

{{TAG_OPEN_div_28} The Thankot-Chapagaon-Bhaktapur transmission line project was started with the objective of constructing a ring structure of 132 KV transmission line covering Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur in order to make the electricity supply of Kathmandu Valley adequate, safe, reliable and quality. Under the project, the construction of 132-11 KV substation at Chovar was started as an alternative after the construction of the transmission line was affected due to local obstructions in Khokana, Bungmati, Harisiddhi and Lamatar areas of Lalitpur.

The Chobhar substation has nine feeders of 11 kV capacity for local electricity supply. The substation will supply electricity to Kirtipur, Pharping, Pulchowk, Ekantakuna and other areas. After the operation of the substation, the electricity voltage in these areas will improve and the supply system will be more reliable and qualitative.TAG_OPEN_div_26

Electricity generated from hydropower projects mainly located in the Trishuli and Marsyangdi river catchment areas is being supplied to the Kathmandu Valley through the Matatirtha substation. With the operation of the 132 KV transmission line from Matatirtha substation to Chobhar substation, additional alternative routes will be available in the electricity supply system of the valley.

About 4 TAG_OPEN_div_22.5 kilometers of 132 kV underground transmission line is under construction from Chobhar substation to Lagankhel (Patan) substation of Lalitpur via Ring Road. For this, the work of upgrading Patan substation to 132 kV level has also been started.

The Thankot-Chapagaun-Bhaktapur 132 KV transmission line project was started in the fiscal year 2055/56 with the investment of the Government of Nepal and Nepal Electricity Authority. Under the project, the construction of the transmission line towards Kathmandu and Bhaktapur has been completed. The line up to Chobhar, which has been constructed towards Kathmandu, is being charged.TAG_OPEN_div_20

On the Lalitpur side, the construction of the transmission line has not moved ahead after the locals of Khokana, Bungmati, Harisiddhi and Lamatar areas obstructed the construction of the transmission line. Due to this, the operation of the 132 KV transmission system in the Kathmandu Valley in a full ring structure has been affected.TAG_OPEN_div_18
